Meet Dr. Sandhya Celestin-brown

Dr. Sandhya Celestin-Brown is a proud graduate of Widener University’s Ph.D. program in Social Work and works as a psychotherapist, helping people from all walks of life. She has built her career around advocating for those who are often overlooked—whether it’s students, individuals in the criminal justice system, or others facing systemic barriers.

She has a strong passion for tackling issues like criminal justice reform, recidivism, and reintegration, working on both individual and big-picture levels to create meaningful change. Her work focuses on helping people heal from trauma, not just by recognizing their struggles but by highlighting their strengths and resilience.

Beyond her professional achievements, what brings her the most fulfillment is teaching and mentoring the next generation of leaders. As an Adjunct Professor, she finds purpose in empowering others to use their voices and stand up for those who need support. For her, education isn’t just about knowledge—it’s about making a difference.

Now, she’s taking that commitment to the community by running for the Appoquinimink School Board, with a clear mission: to ensure every family feels seen, heard, and valued. She believes that strong schools build strong communities, and she’s ready to advocate for students, parents, and teachers alike.
